Matsumoto Country Club is one of finest courses in central Japan. Located high in the hills above Matsumoto, it offers great facilities and services.
Play is a little slower than on other cheaper courses as there are not only lunch breaks, but a couple of refreshment huts along the way to have a drink (non-alcoholic and alcoholic).
The front 9 has a longer yardage but is flatter. There are a number of water features, and the scenery is excellent.
The back 9 is a lot hillier and there are some amazing holes with lofted tees.
The woods are teaming with wildlife and every time we play here you see deer, rabbits and other animals. Indeed the last time we played here we were last player on the course, and as soon as we moved through the deer came out behind us. The ponds are full of Carp also.
Matsumoto Country Club is about 90 minutes drive from Hakuba. A round here is a little more expensive than other local courses, but the meals here are very good. Expect to pay about 12,000yen a round for golf and lunch. Throw in 3-4,000yen more if you like a few beers on the way around.
